overview
At Xbox, I worked on Forza Motorsport franchise - a realistic racing simulator that focuses on precision and authenticity. I was fortunate to lead the experience & look for several flagship features, like Builders Cup, Showroom, Rivals and Free Play, where players immerse themselves, challenge their limits, and showcase their automotive prowess.

Working shoulder-to-shoulder with talented game designers and engineers, I balance creative visions with technical viabilities to spark excitement, prolong playtime, and encourage higher replay rates for an enhanced gaming experience.
Free Play
Alongside the new Free Play flow, I also crafted event cards for players' customized races. A universal template was designed for all event types, making it easy for players to share and review their creations.
Builders Cup
Builders Cup is where players build up their career path through our curated 'Tours'. Their journey is structured from Event → Series → Tour. To effectively showcase a player's advancements across these three tiers, I incorporated visual indicators with varying degrees of prominence.
Rivals
One of the key features to drive player retention is Rivals, where we pair players of similar skill levels or let them challenge top-tier racers around the world. I used colors and light-tone tiles to indicate player's rankings, and cultivate an immediate sense of  competence.
Odyssey Lookback
As players rev their engines, navigate tracks, or bask in the glory of their virtual garage, I feel a quiet pride knowing that I've had a hand in shaping those moments of joy, adrenaline, and awe. 😉
Wrapping up my odyssey below with some thoughts and pics I took from the motorsport world.
Enjoy the ride! 🏎️ 💨💨💨

How do we design 'Playfulness' ?
What does it truly mean for a design to be 'playful'? That's the question I asked myself from my first day at Xbox. At its simplest, 'playful' can mean intuitive interfaces that effortlessly guide players, making interactions feel almost second nature. But I figure it's more nuanced than that.

Playfulness in design often implies a sense of discovery, surprise, and freedom. It’s about creating an environment where players feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and push boundaries. For instance, when we talk about a complex racing system, playfulness isn't about simplifying it. Instead, it revolves around crafting it in such a manner that players have the utmost freedom to strategize, make choices, and delve into the depth of the game mechanics, all while navigating effortlessly through a vast system.
Designers sitting in driver's seat
The landscape of UX design in the gaming industry presents a unique challenge, one I've always found compelling. At its core, our role is to strike a balance: delivering the familiar joys players seek, while also gently guiding them towards new, exhilarating experiences they haven’t yet discovered. It's an intricate dance of anticipating a player's intent, forecasting their upcoming decisions, ensuring a seamless navigational experience, and crafting gameplay moments that are as instinctive as they are immersive.
Gaming Narratives & Business Objectives
Crafting compelling storylines or game mechanics wasn't solely for entertainment; each element on screen serves a dual purpose. While engaging players and immersing them in captivating worlds, these elements also drove key business metrics, from player loyalty to in-game purchases. Position our products in a way resonated both with playful hearts and the company's long-term growth strategy.
